A few months ago, I saw the Maresh red barn being painted white. I thought the white was just a primer and that soon it would get its proper red coat restored. And I thought that the big white letters saying :
Established 1970
Maresh
Red Hills Vineyard
I thought they would go back up, too.
But it isn’t to be. The iconic red barn remains white, and a For Sale sign is now up, out front on Worden Hill Road.
Bit of a sad day. I’ve been walking and driving past that barn for more than 20 years, and it always felt like sort of a symbol of the region to me. End of an era in a way.
